At 4BIS we use Symfony as our go to framework for many different types of web applications. For example, this website is made using our own in-house developed Symfony based CMS, but our customer portal also runs on Symfony.

React uses the virtual DOM, or Document Object Model, to update web pages instantly. This means that React can render the DOM much faster than a normal page refresh can.
The DOM is actually a collection of nodes in a tree structure. Thanks to javascript you can easily add and remove nodes to create a more responsive application. Now, this isn't necessarily slow. What is slow is the browser which will re-render all your CSS for every DOM update. The Virtual DOM, on the other hand, is a light and decoupled abstraction of the real DOM. It is actually the user's browser that will keep a virtual representation of the UI in its memory. With every status update that applies javascript, the in-memory virtual UI will detect it, compare it to the browser's current DOM, and only update the sections that are different. This results in fewer changes to the UI and will inevitably provide a speed gain for your application.
